Question:

A boy sees the top of a tree at an angle of elevation 40degree. The boy is 10metres away from the tree. Find the height of the tree?

solution:

option A

Given:

  • The boy is 10metres away from the tree.
  • elevation θ = 40°

To find:

Find the height of the tree?

step by step explanation:

Let AB be distance between boy and tree and height of tree be h = BC

Let us assume the height of the tree as h

In right angled ∆ABC ,

 \sf tan \: 40\degree =  \frac{BC }{AB}

 \sf tan \: 40\degree =  \frac{h}{10}

  \sf h  = tan  \: 40\degree \times 10

  \sf h = 0.84 \times 10 = 8.4(approx)

Therefore,

\longrightarrow\underline{\underline{\red{\sf{The \:  height \:  of \:  the \:  tree = 8.4(approx)}}}}
