Answer:

let the pocket money be 100

pocket money spend on oranges= 20/100*100=20

pocket money spent on apple = 1 quarter= 25

pocket money spend on fees = 5/100*100=5

money left =20+25+5/100

= 50/100=1/2

hope it helps

Answer:

One half of the whole has been left by the boy

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the pocket money of the boy be 'x'

Given that he spends 20% on oranges.

=> Money spent on oranges = 20% of x

                                               = \frac{20}{100} * x

                                               = x/5              --(i)

Given that he spends one quarter on apples.

We know that one quarter = \frac{1}{4}

=> Money spent on apples = \frac{1}{4} of x

                                             = \frac{1}{4} * x

                                             = x/4              --(ii)

Given that he spends 5% in paying fines.

=> Money spent on fines = 5% of x

                                          = \frac{5}{100} * x

                                          = x/20              --(iii)

Therefore, the total amount spent = \frac{x}{5} + \frac{x}{4} + \frac{x}{20}

                                                         = \frac{4x+5x+x}{20}

                                                         = \frac{10x}{20}

                                                         = \frac{x}{2}

Therefore, the amount left = x -  \frac{x}{2}

                                             =  \frac{x}{2}

                                             = \frac{1}{2} * x

Therefore, one half of the whole has been left by the boy
