Answer:

3:2

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Total money spent by the boy = Rs. 81

Cost of a pen = Rs. 7

Cost of a pencil = Rs.3

To Find,

The ratio of pens to the number of pencils purchased by him.

Solution,

The total money spent by the boy is 81

He bought the maximum number of pens.

To buy 11 pens money spent = 77 and the remaining money = 4 but 1 Rs, still remains with the boy

Now, To buy 9 pens money spent = 63, and the remaining money = 18, and in 18 Rs the boy can buy 6 pencils.

So,

The ratio of pens to pencil = number of pens/number of pencils = 9/6

Hence, the ratio of the number of pens to pencils is 9:6 = 3:2
