amount initially available with the boy = 2400

part of the amount spent on buying cloth = 3/5

2400*3/5 = 1440

amount left = 2400 - 1440 = 960

part of the amount spent on buying shoes = 1/4 of the amount left/remaining amount..

960*1/4 = 240... is the amount spent by that boy on buying shoes

guptaprine338: First we takeout who much he spend on cloth 2400*3/4=1440, then he spend on shoes 2400-1440 =960 spend on shoes to buy

----------------------------------------

Here is the solution:

----------------------------------------

Find the amount he spent on cloth:

3/5 of Rs 2400 = Rs 1440

Find the amount remaining:

Rs 2400 - Rs 1440 = Rs 960

Find the amount spent on shoes:

1/4 x 960 = Rs 240

Answer: He spent Rs 240 on shoes
