A boy start towards east with uniform speed 5m/s. After t = 2 second he turns right and travels 40 m
with same speed. Again he turns right and travels for 8 second with same speed. Find out the
displacement; average speed, average velocity and total distance travelled.

Explanation:

first distance is= speed× time

5×2=10 m

now 2nd distance is 40 m (given)

and 3rd distance =5×8 =40m

now, total distance = 10+40+40=90m

total time = 2+8+8= 18sec

average speed= total distance

total time taken

= 90

18

. = 5m/s

total displacement= see fig. 2

by pythagoras theorem

√(30)^2+(40)^2 =h

√(900+1600)= √2500

=50m

average velocity= total displacement

total time taken

=50

18

= 2.77m/s
