As the boy Travels 3 km north and then 4 km East the displacement covered by him will be 5km because he is 5km far from the starting point.The right angle triangle is formed here ,so this can be solved by Pythagorean theorem.
a=3km.
b=5km.
a^2+b^2=c^2.
3^2+4^2=25=c^2.
c^2=25km.
c=5km.
