We know that,

 \large \sf \red{Distance }{= Speed × Time}

 \sf{Distance \:  travelled \:  by \:  boy \:  in   \: x  \: hours \:  =8x }\\ \sf{Distance \:  travelled \:  by \:  boy \:  in \:  y  \: hours = 7y} \\  \\  \sf{He  \: goes \:  37  \: km  \: altogether} \\  \\  \sf{⇒8x + 7y = 37   = 1} \\  \\  \sf{also  \: he takes \:  5  \: hours  \: altogether} \\  \\  \sf{⇒ x + y = 5} \\  \\  \sf{⇒y = 5 – x  = 2} \\  \\  \sf{Putting \:  the \:  value  \: of \:  y  \: from \:  (2) \:  in \:  (1)} \\  \\  \sf{8x + 7 (5 – x) = 37} \\  \\  \sf{⇒ 8x + 35 – 7x = 37} \\  \\  \sf{⇒ x = 37 – 35 = 2 \:  hours} \\  \\  \sf{ putting  \: the \:  value \:  of \:  x  \: in \:  (2)}  \\  \\ \sf{y = 5 – 2 = 3  \: hours }\\  \\  \sf{Hence  \: x = 2 \:  hours \:  and \:  y = 3  \: hours}
