Average speed = v

First speed = V1

Second speed = V2

Distance = s = 0.5 km = 500 m

First Time = t1 = 20 minutes = 1200 seconds

Second time = t2 = 25 minutes = 1500 seconds

v1 = s / t1

v1 = 500 m / 1200 seconds

v1 = 5/12 m/seconds

V2 = s/t2

V2 = 500 m / 1500 seconds

V2 = 1/3 m/seconds

Finding the value average speed

v = (V1 + V2)/2

v = (5/12 + 1/3)/2

v = 3/8 m/seconds

So, average speed is 3/8 metres/seconds.
