Given :

  • Distance = 0.5 km .
  • Time = 20 and 25 minutes.

To find :

  • Average speed =?

Step-by-step explanation :

Let, Average speed be, v

Then, First speed be, v1

And, Second speed be, v2

Distance, s = 0.5 km = 500 m.

First time (t1) = 20 minutes = 1200 seconds

For First Speed,

As We know that,

Speed = Distance /Time

Substituting the values in the above formula, we get,

V1 = s/t1

= 500/1200

= 5/12 m/s.

For Second Speed,

Second time (t2) = 25 minutes = 1500 seconds

According to above formula,

V2 = s/t2

Substituting the values, we get,

= 500/1500

= 5/15

= 1/3 m/s.

Now,

As We know that,

Average speed,

v = (v1 + v2)/2

= [(5/12) + (1/3)]/2

= 3/8 m/s.

Therefore, the average speed = 3/8 m/s.
