a boy was asked to add 3 to a certain number and to divide the sum by 2 but he subtracted 2 from the number and multiplied the remainder by 3 and got the same result. Find the number and the result.

Let that no. be X.
According to question.
(X + 3)
but he subtracted.
(X + 3 - 2) Γ— 3 ----------(1).
But the correct answer will be.
(X + 3)
then he divided.
(X + 3)/2. ---------------(2).
now putting together (1) and (2).
3X + 9 - 6 = (X + 3)/2.
6X + 19 - 12 = X + 3.
5X = 4
X = 4/5.
