A right angle triangle ABC is form in which,

Refer the attache figure below.

AB=50 m is the length of the string be the hypotenuse,

AC=40 m is the height of the boy to tree be the perpendicular,

BC=x is the distance between tree was the the boy flying the kite be the base.

Applying Pythagoras theorem,

AB^2=AC^2+BC^2

50^2=40^2+x^2

2500=1600+x^2

2500-1600=x^2

900=x^2

x=\sqrt{900}

x=30

Therefore, 30 meter away from the tree was the boy flying the kite.
