Let the distance between the boy and the tree be 'd'.

\bold{By\:Pythagoras\:theorem,}

d ^{2} = {50}^{2} - 40^{2}

d^{2} = 2500 - 1600

 {d}^{2} = 900

d = \sqrt{900}

d = 30

\bold{Therefore,}

The distance between the boy and the tree is \bold{30\:m}
