The momentum of the bicycle- boy system is 800 kg.m/s

GIVEN

Weight of the boy = 30 kg.

Weight of the bicycle = 50 kg.

Speed of the bicycle = 9km/hr

TO FIND

Linear momentum of the boy-bicycle system.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

We know that the momentum(p) of a body is given by the formula-

p = m.v

Where,

m = mass of the body in kg

v = velocity of the body in m/s

Now,

mass of the boy + bicycle system = 30 + 50 = 80 kg

Speed of Bicycle = 9 km/hr = 9×5/18 = 10m/s

Putting the values in the above formula we get,

p = 80 × 10 = 800 kg.m/sec

Hence, The momentum of the bicycle- boy system is 800 kg.m/s
