Answer:

The average Velocity and the average speed are both 15 m/s.

Explanation:

Let the first speed be V1

Let the second speed be V2

Average speed = V1 + V2 / 2

= 20 + 10 / 2

= 30 / 2 = 15 m/s. (ans).

Average velocity = Average speed

=15 m/s. (answer).

Answer :

Given -

  • Speed at which boy went to the market = 20 m/s
  • Then equal distance was travelled with the speed of 10 m/s

To Find -

  • Average Speed and Average velocity ?

Solution -

  • Average Speed = Total Distance/Total Time
  • Average Velocity = Total Displacement/Total Time

First case :

  • Distance assumed as d.
  • Speed = 20 m/s

Time 1 = Distance/Speed

⇒ T1 = d/20

Second case :

Distance assumed as d.

Speed = 10 m/s

Time 1 = Distance/Speed

⇒ T1 = d/10

Hence,

➸ Average Speed = (d + d)/(d/20 + d/10)

➸ Average Speed = (d + d)/(d + 2d/20)

➸ Average Speed = (2d)/(3d/20)

➸ Average Speed = (2d)*(20/3d)

➸ Average Speed = 40/3

➸ Average Speed = 13.33 m/s

As, the distance travelled here is equal to the displacement. Hence, average velocity will be equal to average speed.
