If the person is on the lift and the lift ascends with an acceleration , an additional force is acted on the downwards direction in addition to the force of gravity on person .

This additional force is equal to (m *  a)

where, m = mass of boy

             a = acceleration of lift

            g  =  acceleration due to gravity  = 9.8 m/s^2

So, total force acting downwards on spring balance  =  mg +  ma

                                                                      =  m(g + a)

                                                                      = 50 * (9.8 + 2)

                                                                        =  590  N

Thus, reading of spring balance  =  total force/g

                                                      =   590/9.8

                                                       =    60.2041  kg

Answer:

m = mass of boy

a = acceleration of lift

g  =  acceleration due to gravity  = 9.8 m/s^2

=> total force acting downwards on spring balance = mg + ma

                                                                                      = m(g + a)

                                                                                      = 50(9.8 + 2)

                                                                                      = 590 N

Therefore the reading of the spring balance = total force / g

                                                                           = 590 / 9.8

                                                                           = 60.2041 kg
