a breakaway population colonies a new area. the population is small and faces different environmental conditions . despite these issues, the population which is isolation from the parent population, diverges from the parent population, an increase in population size along with a decreases in variation among individuals in the population, then which of thee are probaly occuring?

"A breakaway population manages to colonize a new geographical area."
The above case is an example of allopatric speciation. In other words, emergence of species due geographical hinderence or isolation.
Example :
- Splitting of Pangaea ages ago, led to different breeding and nurturing mechanism in mammals.
- Generally, mammals are known to birth a well developed progeny but in the case of Kangaroo (marsupial), a poorly developed organisms is born in a gestation period of 30 days. Vowing to the incomplete developement, jills generally protect their joeys in their pouches till it fully grows.
The above citation points towards diversion in characteristics from the parent population.
"Population is small"
Lesser the population, lesser are the variations. With increase in population size, same genes will be reappearing in the gene pool. Thus, there will be significant similarities in the intermediate populations.
Thus, I conclude both the cases are likely to happen.
