A brick is 40 cm long,10 cm wide and 5cm thick. It weighs 20 N and is lying on
the ground. Find the minimum pressure exerted by the brick on the ground.

Solution :

1 = 40, b = 10, h = 10

Force = Weight = 20

Area of brick = 2(lb + bh + hl)

2 (40×10 + 10 × 10 + 10 × 40)

2(400 + 100 + 400)

2 × 900 = 1800 cm ^ 2

Pressure = Force /Area

= 20 /18000

= 1/90
