The functions of parenchyma tissues are storage, photosynthesis, and to help the plant float on water. Collenchyma- Are similar to parenchyma cells with thicker cell walls. They are meant to provide mechanical support to the plant structure in parts such as petiole of the leaf.

These tissues are found in different type of plants. Most of these tissues are supportive and provide mechanical strength. Also most of the cells of these tissues are dead by which the mechanical support can be obtained efficiently.
Sub types :
- Meristematic tissue
- permanent tissue
___________________________
Meristematic tissue :
These tissues are made up of undifferentiated cells. These cells have capacity to divide through the life of plants. These tissues are located in specialised parts - the meristems.

Types of meristematic tissue :
There are three types of meristematic tissue :
- Apical meristematic tissue :
→ These are located at apices of shoots and roots. These help in longitudinal growth of the plants.
- Intercalary meristematic tissue :
→ It is located at the base of leaves for internodes that is an either sides of nodes. This tissue also helps in increasing length of plants.
- Lateral meristematic tissue :
→ It is present on lateral sides of plants. It is also known as the cambium. It increases the girth or breadth of plant.

Permanent tissue :
The Permanent tissues have permanent shape size and. The tissues are made from meristematic tissue by the process of differentiation.
Differentiation is the process by which cells take permanent shape size and function.

Types of permanent tissue :
- Simple permanent tissues
- Complex permanent tissues

★Simple permanent tissues :
The permanent tissues which are made up of same type of cells are called simple permanent tissues.
Types :
These are of three types :
- Parenchyma
- collenchyma
- schlernchyma

★ Complex permanent tissues :
These permanent tissues are made up of different type of cells with common aim are called complex permanent tissues.
Types :
These are of two types :
- Water conducting tissue ( xylem )
- food translocating tissue ( phloem )
