It is a branch of Science & Technology which is concerned with the properties of Metals also with their production & purification.
There are mainly 3 Branches
»${\mathcal{\blue {Physical Metallurgy}}}$: Deals in development of Metallic alloys which is needed for different types of manufacturing and construction.
»${\mathcal{\blue {Extractive Metallurgy} }}$: Practice of removing the valuable metals from the ore & refining the extracted raw raw materials into a more pure form.
»${\mathcal{\blue {Mineral Processing}}}$: It is a process of separating commercially valuable minerals from the ores.

$\bf{\underline {Minerals}}$
Naturally occurring elements and compounds are called Minerals

$\bf{\underline {Ore}}$
Minerals when high percentage of metal that can be extracted profitably is known as Ore.

$\bf {\underline {Gangue}}$
During extraction of ores some impurities like sand, soil are removed from ores. These impurities are called Gangue.

$\bf{\underline {Matrix}}$
Composition of 2 materials in which one is a necessary metal & other may be an organic compound.

$\bf{\underline {Flux}}$
A chemical which acts as a cleaning(or purifying) agent. It is used in both extracting & joining metals.

$\bf{\underline {Slag}}$
A mixture usually of a metal oxide & silicon dioxide, whereas it can contain metal sulfides & any elemental metal.
