The lightning conductor provides a very low resistance path between the top of the lightning conductor rod via a substantial strip of metal to the ground so that the current as a result of a lightning strike does not flow through the building to which it is attached

The need of a lightning conductor
- it is always preferable that a building should have a lightning conductor. it is also said that a having a broken conductor is better than not having any conductor at all the reason behind this is that the lightning conductors are placed on the highest point of a building so that when any lightning strikes the first point of contact is the conductor and this conductor provides a very low resistance path for the Lightning that has stricken.
- If a certain building is struck by the lightning then not having a lightning conductor can prove to be very damaging as the complete building becomes a conductor and can get damaged but if there is a lightning conductor present in the building even if it is broken the lightning gets a path that has lower resistance and hence it will choose that part without damaging the building it can travel through the conductor to the ground.
