Let the sister's age be x.
Then the brother's age is x+2
five years ago:
sister's age is x-5
brother's age is x-5+2
==> x-3
1/3 rd of his age is (x-3) / 3
3/7 th of her age is 3 (x-5) / 7
Thus:
(x-3)/3=3(x-5)/7
Cross multiplying gives:-
==> 7(x-3) = 9(x-5)
==> 7x-21 = 9x-45
==> 7x-9x = -45+21
==> -2x = -24
==> x= -24/-2
==> x=12
Hence sister's age is 12 and brother's age is 12+2 which is 14
Hope it helps you.
