Answer:

Initial Price Value of the Building: Rs. 3,55,000

Maintenance Charges: Rs. 1000 / Month

According to the question, building was sold after 5 months. Hence total amount invested by the builder is:

⇒ Initial Cost + Maintenance for 5 months

⇒ 3,55,000 + 5 ( 1000 )

⇒ 3,55,000 + 5000

3,60,000

But it is given that the selling price encountered a loss of Rs. 72,000.

Hence, Selling Price = 3,60,000 - 72,000 = 2,88,000

Now, Loss % = ( Loss / CP ) × 100

⇒ Loss % = ( 72,000 / 3,60,000 ) × 100

⇒ Loss % = ( 0.2 ) × 100

⇒ Loss % = 20 %

Hence the loss percentage is 20 %.
