Let consider the CP is = X

SP = 4200     ( given)

He has paid the auctioneer 5% on the selling price:-

∴ 5% of 4200 = \frac{5}{100} × 4200= 210

After paying the auctioneer 5% on the selling price he had total amount

= (4200 - 21`0)

= 3990

After paying the auctioneer 5% on the selling price he found that he had made profit of 5%

Now 5% of X + X = 3990     ( CP = X )

\frac{5}{100} X +X = 3990

(5X + 100X)/100 = 3990

105X = 3990 × 100

X = 3990/105 ×100

X = 3800 =CP

Hence the cost of the house was Rs 3800.

Ans :- The cost of the house was Rs 3800.
