Answer:

Explanation:

The wattage of a bulb is 24W when it is connected to a 12 v battery. Calculate the effective wattage if it operates on 6v battery

Power = Voltage²/ Resistance

P = V²/R

=> R = V²/P

P = 24 W

V = 12 V

R = (12)²/24

=> R = 144/24

=> R = 6 Ω

Power when connected to 6 V

P = 6²/6

=> P = 36/6

=> P = 6 W

So wattage = 6 W if operated on 6 V

Power reduced to one fourth if voltage is halved.

Power , P = V² / R, so

R = V²/P

for P = 24W and V = 12 V,

R = 12 * 12 / 24 = 6 ohm

So resistance of bulb = 6 ohm.

so Power at V = 6V is,

P = 6*6  / 6

P = 6W
