A bulb is connected in series with an inductor to an a.C. Supply. How would the brightness of the bulb change on inserting a diamagnetic core in the inductor?

By inserting iron rod into the coil, inductance of the coil is increased. This means more reactance drop across the coil and leaving lesser voltage for the bulb. Therefore brightness of the bulb decreases.
