A bullet glider and a target glider both have a mass of 0.200 kg. The bullet glider is moving 0.450 m/s when it collided with the stationary target glider. If the collision is perfectly in elastic where the objects stick together what will be the speed of the gliders after the collision?

Explanation:

  • momentum of bullet=

.200x.450=0.09kgm/s

  • initial momentum of Target is 0 as it is stationary

  • in inelastic collision,momentum of the system is conserved ,so we will equate the initial and final momentum of both the masses before and after collision

  • let us consider the velocity of the combined mass after collision to be "z"

so

initial momentum of masses= final momentum of combined mass

.0200x.450 +0= (.200+.200)x(z)

z=.0225m/s

hope this helps
