A bullet is fired in horizontal direction from top of a tower 19.6m tall. If the bullet falls 500m away from base of the tower calculate velocity of the bullet

Velocity of bullet (u) = 250 m/s

Explanation:

Given ;-

          h = 19.6 m ( height of tower )

          x = 500 m  horizontal range )

Since,

          x = u Tf     [ where, Tf = time of flight ]

     500 = u × √2h/g     [ since, Tf = √2h/g ]

     500 = u × √2 ×19.6 / 10  [Approximating 19.6 as 20 for convenience in calculation]

     500 = u × √2 × 20/ 10

     500 = u × √4

     500 = 2u

     250 = u

Hence, velocity of the bullet is u = 250 m/s
