so,

final velocity = 0 [bullet stops]

distance travelled by the bullet = 10 cm

by changing it into m

= 10/100

= 0.1 m

so,

here we have ,

initial velocity(u)  = 100 m/s

final velocity(v) = 0

distance travelled(s) = 0.1 m

so,

by the equation of motion

v² = u² + 2as

where a = acceleration of the object.

so,

putting the values

(0)² = (100)² + 2a(0.1)

0.2a + 10000 = 0

0.2a = -10000

a = -10000/0.2

a = -50000 m/s²

negation of acceleration shows the retardation or negative acceleration

so,

Retardation = -50000 m/s²
