a bullet of 10 gram strikes a sand bag at a speed of 10 metre per second and gets embedded after travelling 5 metre. Calculate :-
a) the resistive force exerted by the sand bag on the bullet.
b) the time taken by the bullet to come to rest.

Mass of the bullet:m=10 g =0.01 kgSpeed:v=1000 m/sDistance:s=0.05 m

(a)Resistive force:F=ma =mv2-u22s =0.01×0-100022×0.05 =-105 NMagnitude of resistive force=105 N

(b)Time taken to come to rest:s=u+v2tt=2su+v =2×0.051000 =10-4 s
