A bullet of mass 0.01 kg moving horizontally strikes a block of 2 kg what is the final velocity of the bullet

Explanation:

The question can be answered in any conservation method

                            I use conservation of momentum

Mass of bullet = 10g = 10⁻² kg ; mass of block = 2kg

speed of bullet =  400m/s ; height raised = 0.1 m

for the block

mgh = 1/2mv²   ------- v =√(2gh) = 1.4 m/s

mv = m1v1 + m2v2

If v₂ is the final speed ,  v₂ =  (10⁻² x 400) - (2 x 1.4) / 10⁻2

                                            = (4 - 2.8) x 10²

                                             = 120 m/s
