Since it is unlikely that you shoot a 10 kg bullet from a 1 kg gun, I will assume that you meant a 10 gram bullet. If so, the ratio of gun mass to bullet mass is 100:1. Since momentum is conserved in firing the gun, the bullet and gun have equal and opposite momentum upon shooting. Since momentum p=mv , the velocity of the bullet must be 100 times the velocity of the gun. Since kinetic energy Ek is proportional to mass and to velocity squared:

Ek=12mv2

therefore kinetic energy of the bullet is 0.01 * 100 2 = 100 times that of the gun. And that is why the bullet hurts a whole lot more than the gun handle when the gun is fired.
