A bullet of mass 100g is fired towards a stationary wooden block of mass 900g. The bullet hits the block with speed 50ms-1 and sticks into it. Find the final velocity of the combination.

We know that mometum is conserved.

That is,

Initial momentum=Final momentum

m1×v1=(m1+m2)v

Substitute the given datas in the equation

We get,

0.1×50=(0.1+0.9)v

v=5m/s
