Given that,

Mass of a bullet, m₁ = 10 g = 0.01 kg

Speed of bullet, v₁ = 200 m/s

Mass of a pistol, m₂ = 2 kg

To find,

The recoil velocity of pistol.

Solution,

It is the concept based on the conservation of linear momentum. The momentum of the system remains conserved. Let v₂ is the recoil velocity of the pistol.

So,

m_1v_1=m_2v_2\\\\v_2=\dfrac{m_1v_1}{m_2}\\\\v_2=\dfrac{0.01\times 200}{2}\\\\v_2=1\ m/s

So, the recoil velocity of pistol is 1 m/s.
