A bullet of mass 20g is moving with a velocity 20m/s gets embedded in a wooden block of 980g. Calculate the velocity acquired by the block.

apply conservation of momentum.
as no external force is acting.
so.

mv = MV

20X20=( 20+980)X v
v=400/1000
v= 0. 4 m/s

we added up the masses because the bullet is embedded into the block...
