Given:
mass=20g=20/1000=0.02kg
u=500m/s
v=400m/s
Workdone by bullet =loss of its kinetic energy
=its initial K.E- final K.E
=1/2 x0.02x[(500)² - (400)²]
=0.01x9x 10⁴
=900joules

The work done by the bullet in passing through the tree is 900 J.

Explanation:

The mass of the bullet, m = 20 g = 0.02 kg.

The velocity of the bullet before collision, u = 500 m/s.

The velocity of the bullet after collision, v = 400 m/s.

To calculate the work done we have to use work energy theorem.

Work done by the bullet in passing through the tree is equal to change of kinetic energy of the bullet .

 W=\frac{1}{2}m(u^2-v^2)

substitute the given values, we get

W=\frac{1}{2}\times0.02kg[( 500m/s)^2-(400m/s)^2]

W = 900 J

Thus, the work done by the bullet in passing through the tree is 900 J.
