Let velocity of recoil of rifle be v2

Using the law of momentum conservation,

m1 u1 +m2u2 = m1v1 m2v2

Since, initially the bullet and rifle are at rest.

Hence, u1 =0, u2 =0

On substituting the values, we get

0.020×100=8×−v

v=−0.25m/s

Here. negative sign shows that the direction is opposite to motion of bullet.
