The average force exerted on the block is 0.625 × 10⁴ N.

Given -

  • Mass of bullet = 50 gram
  • Initial velocity of the bullet = 500 m/sec
  • Distance covered by the bullet in a wooden block = 100 cm = 1 m
  • Final velocity of the bullet will be zero

We know that -

v² - u² = 2as

By substituting the value we get

0 - (500)² = 2 × a × 1

a = - 125000 m/s²

The average force exerted on the block is

F = ma

F = 0.05 × 125000

F =  0.625 × 10⁴ N
