mass of bullet m1 = 50g

mass of rifle m2 = 4 kg = 4x1000g= 4000g

initial velocity u = 35m/sec

we know m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2

50x 0 + 4000x 0 = 50x 35 + 4000x V2 (since initial velocity is always zero for rifle and bullet).

=> 0+ 0= 1750 + 4000v2

=> – 4000v2 = 1750

=> –v2 =

1750  \\  -  -  -  \\ 4000

V2= –0.4375 m/sec
