Mass of bullet = m1 = 5g = 0.005 kg
Mass of pistol = m2 = 1.5 kg
Recoil velocity of pistol = v1 = 1.5 m/s
velocity of bullet = v2 = ?
By conservation of momentum,
m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2
As , both bullet and gun were at rest during firing, both u1 = u2 = 0 m/s
So,
m1v1 = - m2v2
0.005 × v1 = - 1.5 × 1.5
=> v1 = - (1.5 × 1.5)/0.005
=> v1 = - 450 m/s
Here, negative sign indicates that the bullet went opposite to the direction of recoil of the gun.

Mass of the bullet (m)= 5g
Convert it from gram to kg,
= 5/1000
= 0.005 kg
Mass of the pistol (M)= 1.5Kg
Recoil velocity of the pistol(V) = 1.5m/s
Velocity of the bullet (v) = ?
As we know that ,
V = (-m/M)×v
v = V×M / -m
v = 1.5 × 1.5 / -0.005
v = -450 m/s
Therefore , the velocity of the bullet is -450m/s..
