Given:

  • Weight of a bullet (m1) = 2 kg
  • Weight of a gun (m2) = 8.5 kg
  • Initial velocity of a bullet (v1) = 100 m/s

To Find:

  • The recoil velocity (v2) of a gun.

Solution:

According to the law of conservation of momentum, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

m1v1 = -m2v2

Here,

  • m1 and v1 are the mass and velocity of the bullet.
  • m2 and v2 are the mass and velocity of the gun.

So, the recoil velocity of the gun,

v2 = (m1/m2)/v1

[ Put the values ]

⇒ v2 = (2/8.5) × 100

⇒ v2 = 0.235 × 100

v2 = 23.5 m/s

Hence,

The recoil velocity of a gun is 23.5 m/s.

According to the law of conservation of momentum, for every action there is an equal & opposite reaction.

→ m1v1 = -m2v2

Here,

  • m1 & v1 are the mass & velocity of the bullet.
  • m2 & v2 are the mass & velocity of the gun.

→ v2 = (m1/m2)/v1

→ v2 = (2/8.5) × 100

→ v2 = 0.235 × 100

→ v2 = 23.5 m/s

Hence, the recoil velocity of a gun is 23.5 m/s.

Hope it Helps Buddy ♥️
