The bullet will penetrate to 10 cm

Explanation:

Given data:

S = 30 cm = 30 x 10^-2 m

Loss in velocity = 50%

Equation of motion:

v^2 = u^2 + 2as

Here u^2 / 4 = u^2 + 2a x  30 x 10^-2    ...... (1)

0 =   u^2 / 4 + 2a × x ......... (2)

On solving Equations (1) and (2) we get

x = 10 cm

Thus the bullet will penetrate to 10 cm.
