A bullet was thrown vertically upwards from a heigh ,reaches it's maximum height in 4seconds calculate the initial velocity of the bullet and the total distance the bullet travels by the time it reaches the maximum height

according to newtons law,

v=u+at      a=-10[acting downwards that is against the motion if the bullet and hence taken as negative]

0=u-10*4

u=40ms^-1

now for the upward motion,

v^2-u^2=2as

0-40*40=2*-10*s

s=80m for the upward motion

therefore the total distance covered =2*80m=160m
