strikes a 4kg block of ice at rest on a frictionless
surface and drops dead. The speed of the block

m1 = 0.2kg or 200gm

u1 = 200m/s

v1 = 0

m2 = 4kg

u2 = 0

v2 = ?

By applying conservation of momentum

P1 = P2

m1u1 + m1v1 = m2u2 + m2v2

0.2 × 200 + 0.2 × 0 = 4×0 + 4× x

40 = 4x

x = 40/4

x = 10m/s
