Answer:

average speed = total distance traveled divided by total time taken. Here total distance travelled by car is 300 km and it takes 1 hour and 30 minutes= 1 and 1/2 hour. Average speed = 300/1&1/2 = 50 km/h

Given :

Distance between X and Y = 300 km

Average speed of bus = 60 km/hr

Time taken by car = 1 hour 30 minute = 1\dfrac{30}{60}=1\dfrac{1}{2}=\dfrac{3}{2}

To find : Average speed of car = ?

Solution :

Time taken by bus would be :

\dfrac{Distance}{speed}=\dfrac{300}{60}=5\ hours

Time taken by car would be :

5 hours - 1 hour 30 minutes =3 hours 30 minutes

So, Average speed of car would be :

\dfrac{Distance}{Time}=\dfrac{300}{3\dfrac{1}{2}}=\dfrac{300\times 2}{7}=85.71\ km/hr

Hence, the required speed is 85.71 km/hr.
