A bus cover 160 km at a speed of 40 km per hour and next 120 km at a speed of 60 km per hour. find its average speed speed

Average speed =total distance travelled /total time taken
Average speed =160 +120/4+2
Average speed =280/6
Average speed =46.6km/h.

D₁=160 km, v₁=40 km/hr
t₁=D₁/v₁=160/40=4 hr
D₂=120 km, v₂=60 km/hr
t₂=D₂/v₂=120/60=2 hr
Average speed=Total distance/Total time
=(D₁+D₂)/(t₁+t₂)
=(160+120)/(4+2)=280/6=46.67 km/hr(Ans.)
