Given :-

Initial velocity = 60 km/h

Final velocity = 30 km/h

Time taken = 10 min

To Find :-

The retardation of bus.

Analysis :-

Here, we are given with the initial velocity, final velocity and the time.

Substitute the given values using the formula of first equation of motion and solve for 'a' accordingly.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • u = Initial velocity
  • t = Time
  • v = Final velocity
  • a = Acceleration

Using the formula,

\underline{\boxed{\sf First \ equation \ of \ motion=v=u+at}}

Given that,

Initial velocity = 60 km/h = 16.6 m/s

Final velocity = 30 km/h = 8.3 m/s

Time taken = 10 min = 600 sec

Substituting their values,

8.3 = 16.6 + (a) 600

a = (v-u)/t

a = (8.3-16.6)/600

a = -8.3/600

a = -0.013 m/s²

Therefore, the retardation of the bus is -0.013 m/s².
