Given data : Bus decreases it's speed from 80 km/hr to 50 km/hr in 4 sec.

To find : The acceleration of the bus ?

Solution : According to given,

→ initial velocity, ( u ) = 80 km/hr

→ final velocity, ( v ) = 50 km/hr

→ time taken by bus to decrease it's speed, ( t ) = 4 sec

Here, { we convert velocity of bus, km/hr to m/s }

→ initial velocity ( u ) = 80 km/hr

→ initial velocity ( u ) = {80*1000/60*60} m/s

→ initial velocity ( u ) = 80000/3600 m/s

→ initial velocity ( u ) = 200/9 m/s

Similarly,

→ final velocity ( v ) = 50 km/hr

→ final velocity ( v ) = {50*1000/60*60} m/s

→ final velocity ( v ) = 50000/3600 m/s

→ final velocity ( v ) = 125/9 m/s

Now, we use kinematical equation to find acceleration of the bus

→ v = u + at

→ 125/9 = 200/9 + a * 4

→ 125/9 - 200/9 = a * 4

→ - 75/9 = a * 4  i.e.

→ a * 4 = - 75/9

→ a * 4 = - 25/3

→ a * 4 = - 75/9

→ a * 4 = - 8.33

→ a = - 8.33/4

→ a = - 2.0825 m/s²

Answer : Hence, the acceleration of the bus is - 2.0825 m/s².

{Note : in case : when an object is slowing down, the acceleration is in the opposite direction as the velocity. Thus, this object has a negative acceleration.}
