A bus driver covers a certain distance in 42 minutes at a speed of 50 km/h. What must be the speed to be maintained by him to reduce the time of the journey to 30 minutes due to some personal issues? Do you think the act of bus driver is correct? Which precautions one should take to avoid accidents on roads?

Answer:

The bus driver must maintain a speed of 70 km/h to reach his destination in 30 mins.

Step-by-step explanation:

We know,

Speed = 50 km/h

Time taken = 42 mins.

Since speed is in km/h we must convert the mins. to hrs.

So,

60 mins. = 1hr.

1 min. = (1/60) hr.

So,

42 mins. = 42 × (1/60)

= 42/60

= 7/10

Thus,

Time taken = (7/10) hr.

We know that,

Speed = Distance/Time

∴ Distance = Speed × Time

Distance = 50 × (7/10)

D = 350/10

D = 35 km

So,

The distance travelled = 35 km

Now, the bus driver must cover the same distance much faster.

Speed = ?

Distance = 35 km

Time to be taken = 30 mins

In hours.

= 30 × (1/60)

= (30/60)

Time to be taken = (1/2) hr.

Now,

Speed = Distance/Time

S = 35/(1/2)

S = 35 ÷ (1/2)

S = 35 × 2

S = 70 km/h

Thus,

  • The bus driver must maintain a speed of 70 km/h to reach his destination in 30 mins.

  • If and only if it is a serious emergency we are allowed to speed up, all reason other than it wouldn't be right, if the personal issues are an emergency then it's alright but if not, it's not right.

  • 1. Wear Seatbelts
  • 2. Avoid phone calls and/or eating/drinking while driving.
  • 3. Avoid Speeding.
  • 4. Follow traffic rules.

Hope it helped and believing you understood it........All the best
