Answer:

The distance traveled by bus before coming to rest is 16.63 m.

Explanation:

Initial velocity, u of the bus is 60 km/h = 16.67 m/s

When breaks are applied the bus comes to rest. So the final velocity of the bus will be 0. ie; v = 0.

The time taken for this is, t = 2 s

Acceleration of the bus can be found using the 1st equation of motion.

v = u + at

a = (v - u) / t

  = (0 - 16.67) / 2

a = - 8.34 m/s²

Displacement can be found using the 3rd equation of motion.

v² = u² + 2aS

S = (v² - u²) / 2a

S = (0 - 16.67²) / (2 × -8.34)

S = 16.63 m
