Answer :

Initial velocity of bus = 60km/h

Acceleration of bus = 0.5m/s²

We have to find distance covered by bus before it is brought to rest.

◈ ATQ, acceleration is said to be constant throughout the motion, we can easily apply equation of kinematics to solve this question.

Third equation of kinematics is given by

  • v² - u² = 2as

v denotes final velocity

u denotes initial velocity

a denotes acceleration

s denotes distance

◈ Distance covered by moving object before it is brought to rest is called stopping distance.

✠ 60km/h = 60×5/18 = 16.67m/s

In this case, final velocity = zero

➝ v² - u² = 2as

➝ 0² - (16.67)² = 2(-0.5)s

➝ s = -277.88/-1

s = 277.88 m

[Note : negative sign of a shows retardation.]
